The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is searching for an Energy & Utility Consulting Director for a position based in California.

The Director will manage and provide expertise and professional development to a team of consultants and analysts delivering energy and utility consulting engagements.

The role oversees project quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontracts, proposals, estimates, client relations and delivery performance.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or green card holders. Sponsorship is not available. Local candidates are preferred or candidates should be open to relocation.

Position Overview

This senior consulting leadership role combines client strategy, project delivery, financial management, contracts, vendor oversight, team development, workshop facilitation, analytics and business growth across the energy and utility sector.

Energy & Utility Consulting Director Responsibilities

  • Organize and direct consulting projects from pursuit through completion.
  • Lead project pursuit, negotiation and execution.
  • Manage project cost, schedule and quality.
  • Facilitate workshops with senior-level client teams.
  • Identify client requirements and business needs.
  • Develop actionable plans based on client priorities.
  • Anticipate client challenges before they impact delivery.
  • Develop strategic and innovative consulting solutions.
  • Coordinate project personnel and department management.
  • Coordinate internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Serve as the primary project communication contact.
  • Manage key client interactions and relationships.
  • Compile project status reports.
  • Present progress, schedule and cost information.
  • Communicate budget impacts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish consulting project teams.
  • Coordinate activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Manage efficient and cost-effective staff utilization.
  • Provide performance feedback to personnel managers.
  • Support professional development of consultants and analysts.
  • Contribute to development of training curricula.
  • Develop training materials for consulting staff.
  • Encourage diverse perspectives within project teams.
  • Manage third-party vendors.
  • Manage subcontractors and external resources.
  • Oversee vendor and subcontractor contracts and scope.
  • Monitor subcontractor schedules and budgets.
  • Identify appropriate upselling opportunities.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across clients.
  • Solve complex and ambiguous consulting problems.
  • Apply modern tools, technologies and best practices.
  • Create clarity and momentum on complex engagements.
  • Ensure timely processing of prime contract invoices.
  • Ensure timely processing of subcontractor invoices.
  • Ensure supplier invoicing aligns with agreements.
  • Provide managerial direction to consultants and analysts.
  • Assign work based on project needs and expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or a related field.
  • Degree must be from an accredited program.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 13 years of relevant consulting experience.
  • Proven success managing consulting engagements.
