The Opportunity

One Tech Engineering is searching for a Substation Project Manager for a position located in Austin, Texas.

The Substation Project Manager will lead teams in the day-to-day management of safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, risk, suppliers, proposals, estimates and documentation turnover.

The role supports Design-Only, Engineer Procure Construct, Construction Management, Construction and Program Management projects while coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and field teams.

The Project Manager will also serve as a primary client contact, manage project controls, support contract and risk management, develop new business and provide guidance to less experienced staff.

Position Overview

This leadership role combines substation project management, EPC execution, construction management, project controls, contracts, risk, client relations, financial forecasting, staff coordination and QA/QC.

Substation Project Manager Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through completion.
  • Provide overall leadership for project safety.
  • Maintain project quality standards.
  • Coordinate engineering activities.
  • Coordinate project procurement.
  • Coordinate construction activities.
  • Manage environmental compliance requirements.
  • Lead project controls efforts.
  • Support public and community relations where required.
  • Establish project teams.
  • Coordinate activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective staff utilization.
  • Manage all aspects of project communication.
  • Lead RFP package development.
  • Support bid and selection processes.
  • Develop scope-of-work documents.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules.
  • Manage project scope.
  • Control project costs.
  • Serve as the primary client point of contact.
  • Coordinate client strategic planning.
  • Manage master project scope.
  • Coordinate project budget and finances.
  • Manage subcontracting activities.
  • Coordinate project staffing.
  • Support facility and schedule requirements.
  • Review and negotiate prime contracts.
  • Manage subcontract review and execution.
  • Manage project change orders.
  • Lead internal risk reviews.
  • Lead external project risk reviews.
  • Coordinate with the Risk Department when required.
  • Manage and approve project reports.
  • Prepare accurate cost forecasts.
  • Prepare project accrual information.
  • Manage project cost reporting.
  • Maintain scheduling controls.
  • Establish project work breakdown structures.
  • Coordinate project setup and closeout.
  • Track field progress.
  • Monitor schedule, productivity and budgets.
  • Redirect project efforts when performance issues arise.
  • Support achievement of project profitability.
  • Manage contract closeout activities.
  • Develop new client relationships.
  • Leverage existing relationships for new work.
  • Promote company safety programs.
  • Manage safety performance of team members and subcontractors.
  • Participate in industry conferences.
  • Participate in industry committees.
  • Guide less experienced staff.
  • Maintain QA/QC process adherence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
  • Degree must be from an accredited program.
  • Seven years of applicable professional experience.
  • Construction project site experience preferred.
  • Program management execution experience preferred.
  • Relevant aviation experience may qualify.
  • Commercial construction experience may qualify.
  • Energy-sector project experience is preferred.
  • Government project experience may qualify.
  • Manufacturing project experience may qualify.
  • Oil & gas project experience may qualify.
  • Process-industry experience may qualify.
  • Transmission & Distribution experience is preferred.
  • Water-infrastructure project experience may qualify.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Ability to work overtime on short notice when required.
